Don’t take it from me! – a fresh perspective…

"The baby’s cries were clearly audible from outside - or maybe my ears are more attuned to it now. Getting louder and more hungry with each step, Dad gingerly entered the Pavilion. But she’d already sensed it, and Mum was up from her front row seat. Milliseconds later, baby was hushed. An hour later, and Mum is at the microphone, her inspiring and informative words reassuring another kind of audience. She is just one of a whole day’s line up of women who have all begun their creative wedding businesses themselves; who have learnt to juggle and adapt to parenthood; and who have made it work and decided to share what works with others just like them. Sharing and leading others is what The Hub is all about - it’s what so many of... read more...

Make mine a large please! Are you ready to play big?

Have you ever felt so inspired that you just can't sit still? That even despite your natural want to sit quietly and not make a spectacle of yourself you secretly long to jump in the air and do a heel click whilst you're at it? Write a long list, action that list, wish you were in a different place to do it and do it right now without obstacles?! Have you ever felt part of something, a real community? Had the real feeling and knowledge that you're NOT going it alone, that others have your back, understand what you've been and are going through and where you want to go?Have you ever wanted to feel part of something big? Something much bigger than yourself, something that may even end up result in being not only life changing for... read more...

Fear holding you and your business back? Here’s how to STOP IT DEAD.

A few years ago we, my now husband and I, decided that we wanted to be away for Christmas. Its a thing we do - we love being away in the heat when its cold at home or exploring somewhere when Mister has enough leave from the day job. Anyhow, to cut a long story short, we spent  a week - including Christmas day in Egypt exploring the history, the myth and the wonder of the country. But on the way home we experienced what I can only describe as one of the most scary experiences that either of us have ever been through.Whilst the UK was having storms and ridiculously strong winds, we had been blissfully unaware as we spent our days exploring beaches, temples, the Nile and soaking up the warmth. Only our flight back... read more...

Why I’m over all the ‘help’!

Happy New Year all! I hope you've all had an incredible break with your loved ones and are feeling refreshed and reenergised for this coming new year. Now I don't know about you and I know its probably my fault for signing up to so many things (must be time for a Spring clean!) but I'm getting a little tired of all the 'You must do this' and the 'You need this for a great new year' emails, adverts and posts everywhere. Are you? Ok don't get me wrong I know its a fantastic time to make change or take action in your life or work if you want to, we've all had a break, time to reflect and now its time to get back to things. But do we really all need a thousand things or ways or discounts and offers to get us... read more...

Creating a Mindful Future – a freebie!

At this time of year we're all thinking about the same few things - firstly, how and when we can find downtime to relax and secondly, how we can plan and improve things for a prosperous new year.So I've created a little freebie mini-planner for you to assist with the forward planning part! On the road of running a creative business we often come up against road blocks. Things that stand in our way as we juggle life and business and that often go un-addressed. These can take a few forms - either in being societal pressures or 'norms' - of which we need to question whether they are 'right' or fitting for our own personal mindset or belief system and way of working. These can also often take form in our own personal set of... read more...

Work smart, live smart, be smart. A true fresh start for 2016.

Let me ask you - WHAT ARE YOUR INTENTIONS? Both, Dear Creative, for your business AND for your lifestyle? With a New Year looming it seems we always turn our thoughts to exactly what it is that we want, what we want to do better, what it is that we would like to achieve with this fresh new energy that a new year brings with it. Around 18 months ago I wished for the world to stop spinning. Not in quite the way that it sounds but simply so I could find a way to make sure that time stopped flying past me at a rate of knots. I wanted to actively stop chasing my tail, chasing myself - around in circles - taking the extra long way around to getting something done or something achieved and ending up feeling... read more...

The problem with perfection and how to use it to combat fear

Have you ever felt a fear big enough that it put you in a state of not being able to do anything about it? Of not even committing to put pen to paper to write that list, or that goal, or that first sentence about yourself or your business for either fear of being judged, or fear of your fear itself becoming a reality and just too scary for comfort? I have. It's why it took me so very long to begin writing 'Creative Foundations' - its what froze me from moving my business forward faster than I have. It's what put the fear of God in me about going to University after A-levels (I went at 27 years old!) that whole thing about committing to a path that ultimately might change things for the better, might make me or my future... read more...

Why I won’t be working the same way I did before I got married.

Ok hands up here, I'm finding it a little hard to get back into the swing of things work wise but I also have to admit I don't intend on working the way I did before we got married. The first half of this year - and the most part of last year, was just so crazy. My husband (squee!) and I worked our socks off to earn the money to have the wedding that we had our hearts set on and giving our friends and family a good time, we pushed aside time for ourselves, for each other and for any outings or breaks away. We worked evenings, weekends and took on any extra work we could find and four weeks ago we had the most incredible wedding day. We were also so very fortunate (and super grateful) to have had some assistance in being able to go on... read more...

Interview: Sundari – The Wedding Stylist

So as you know, I have a lot of admiration for people in the industry who are championing their own brands / businesses and carving their own path forward, I know personally how much bravery and determination that can take. Being an independent business owner can certainly hold many challenges for us to all face and through our posts we're really hoping we can help you face these with a little more insight and share a few tips and tricks around the collective community.  Social media can present a whole host of options for us to market our small businesses and I'm a big believer in just how effective it can be. But knowing which avenue to take, be it Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Linkedin or Google +  can be really confusing.... read more...

Interview: Charlie – The Female Photographer Association

I have a confession to make - I often have days where I feel a complete lack of inspiration, a drain on my brain power and energy and really want nothing more than bury my head from the ever increasing pile of emails that seem to be magically appearing in my inbox. When this happens I have discovered that there is nothing better to inspire myself than to read about other people's stories. Often I seek out an interview, a seminar or a class that I know will inspire and give me more information to help spur me along and fire up that motivation. Usually the media that I choose are from people who have been working hard at their own dreams or can help inspire or pass on knowledge that may help me to realise my own. This also forms the... read more...
