Fear holding you and your business back? Here’s how to STOP IT DEAD.

A few years ago we, my now husband and I, decided that we wanted to be away for Christmas. Its a thing we do - we love being away in the heat when its cold at home or exploring somewhere when Mister has enough leave from the day job. Anyhow, to cut a long story short, we spent  a week - including Christmas day in Egypt exploring the history, the myth and the wonder of the country. But on the way home we experienced what I can only describe as one of the most scary experiences that either of us have ever been through.Whilst the UK was having storms and ridiculously strong winds, we had been blissfully unaware as we spent our days exploring beaches, temples, the Nile and soaking up the warmth. Only our flight back... read more...

So you want to know what does work? 5 ways to get ahead.

Alright so last week I wrote to you guys about what drove me crazy about the new year! - All of these confusing messages coming from so many different places which were about 'what you have to do in order to make 2016 a success' or 'what you must do to live a better life' - did you notice it too? Wasn't it all a bit much? its totally why I chose to take the first work week of 2016  as a learning week. I spent time, quietly working my way through both a really bad cold and the courses that I'm currently enrolled upon to make sure that I personally felt good about the direction that I was taking for the New Year. But I also spent it ignoring everyone else. Ok not everyone, but all of these adverts and messages that told me I... read more...

Creating a Mindful Future – a freebie!

At this time of year we're all thinking about the same few things - firstly, how and when we can find downtime to relax and secondly, how we can plan and improve things for a prosperous new year.So I've created a little freebie mini-planner for you to assist with the forward planning part! On the road of running a creative business we often come up against road blocks. Things that stand in our way as we juggle life and business and that often go un-addressed. These can take a few forms - either in being societal pressures or 'norms' - of which we need to question whether they are 'right' or fitting for our own personal mindset or belief system and way of working. These can also often take form in our own personal set of... read more...

Breaking The Acceptance Story Cycle. The secrets to growing your business, improving your lifestyle and working with purpose.

All too often we get caught up in the cycle. The cycle of being busy, of juggling our business, our family, our admin, our dreams, our social life, our should be doing, could be doing's and importantly also our worries and thoughts. And its SO easy to get caught up in that - to get stuck right in the middle and lose sight of where it is we were supposed to be going or even embracing living right now because we're just doing our darn best to get through it all today. The trouble is that we tell ourselves that this is how it has to be, if we're going to make our businesses work, we HAVE to push through this because this is the ONLY way to grow and we accept that story (one thats been taught to us all of our lives by society)... read more...

Work smart, live smart, be smart. A true fresh start for 2016.

Let me ask you - WHAT ARE YOUR INTENTIONS? Both, Dear Creative, for your business AND for your lifestyle? With a New Year looming it seems we always turn our thoughts to exactly what it is that we want, what we want to do better, what it is that we would like to achieve with this fresh new energy that a new year brings with it. Around 18 months ago I wished for the world to stop spinning. Not in quite the way that it sounds but simply so I could find a way to make sure that time stopped flying past me at a rate of knots. I wanted to actively stop chasing my tail, chasing myself - around in circles - taking the extra long way around to getting something done or something achieved and ending up feeling... read more...

Why I won’t be working the same way I did before I got married.

Ok hands up here, I'm finding it a little hard to get back into the swing of things work wise but I also have to admit I don't intend on working the way I did before we got married. The first half of this year - and the most part of last year, was just so crazy. My husband (squee!) and I worked our socks off to earn the money to have the wedding that we had our hearts set on and giving our friends and family a good time, we pushed aside time for ourselves, for each other and for any outings or breaks away. We worked evenings, weekends and took on any extra work we could find and four weeks ago we had the most incredible wedding day. We were also so very fortunate (and super grateful) to have had some assistance in being able to go on... read more...

Interview – Kirsten – The Little Wedding Helper

Its an absolute joy to introduce Kirsten to you. A regular exhibitor at Chosen Wedding Fair's Kirsten has become not only a friend but a massive inspiration to me in all that she does. And when I say all, I mean ALL - and this lady does a lot! I am often teased by people saying that I seem to be doing everything at the moment - and I often am, so its lovely to know that I am not alone in being rather ambitious (or just a massive dreamer) and reaching for the stars. Kirsten certainly has a great grasp on her star! Over the past few years Kirsten has not only won awards for her styling, been on the awards panel, written columns and articles for various wedding publications, organised pop-up wedding shops, champions wedding industry tweet... read more...

Getting the most out of Exhibiting

I’ve been asked a number of times to write a post about how to get the most out of exhibiting at a wedding fair. The truth is that until now I've put off doing it, not only because what works for some people works differently for others but because my response is going to be a little different from what I think people are expecting! I could very well make a check list for you of do’s and don’ts or remember this and forget that but I believe that a lot of that is to do with connection rather than sales or a specific check list as such. Perhaps a little out of the norm for what you may expect for someone who organises so many events but after working with 3000 creatives through organising Designer Maker Markets and Wedding fairs I... read more...

Is your website sad?

People get sad sometimes, so do websites. When a website gets sad you'll notice that it gets slow to use and in severe cases stops working entirely. In order to cheer up your website you're going to need to know that it's sad in the first place, this is why it's a great idea to have some sort of monitoring in place. There's nothing more discouraging than a slow website, it can massively increase your bounce rate (amount of users that load a page and immediately close the site) and can also hinder any chances of a potential sale or enquiry. Not to mention that Google also penalises slow sites within it's search rankings, so having a sad site can also mean that it will be difficult for people to even find you in the first place! Even... read more...

A little insight – behind ‘The Hub’.

I had the most wonderful and inspirational meeting with Victoria Stanton and Laura Caudery of Fetcham Park yesterday. Not only was the setting one of the most serene and pretty places I have ever had the pleasure in taking tea in (no I did not want to leave!), but it was incredible sharing thoughts, ideas and perceptions of the industry that we work in, with other people who are quite simply, on the same wave length and two of the nicest ladies that you could ever hope to meet! I can't possibly begin to tell you the feeling that I felt on leaving our meeting and you'll find out more about the plans we have to come very soon, but in short I came away feeling so excited about things that I could barely sit still!  Many of us in the... read more...
